Companies are utilizing UAVs for professional services in industries like cinematography and filming, real estate, construction, surveying and mapping, agriculture, industrial inspections, utilities inspections and many more.

Our UAV Pilot Training Program will get you ready to service those industries and consists of three phases. Phase 1 (web-based ground school) and Phase 2 (PC-based drone simulator) are conducted from your home. Phase 3 (hands-on flight training) is conducted by one of our expert flight instructors at one of our flight schools located around the USA.

At the end of the program, students will receive the UAV Pilot Certificate that shows 10 hours of simulator, 16 hours of ground school and 16 hours of flight training for a total of 42 hours of training.

If you have a group of students, we can come to your location to train UAV pilots. Unmanned Vehicle University trains pilots and sensor operators across the world. Our pilots are qualified on Hermes, Aerostar, Tigershark, Predator, Reaper and Global Hawk UAVS along with all of the small UAVs available. Phase 2

We will ship the phase 2 drone simulator to you in the mail. The simulator consists of software and a controller that plugs into your computer’s USB port. After you install the software, you will be able to fly 47 different small UAVs from 6 different sites.

This instruction will include only rotor wing aircraft. Fixed wing aircraft can be added for a nominal charge. Students will practice the basics of the RC controller, flight characteristics of the individual aircraft, and take off/landing procedures.

The flight instructor that will be conducting phase 3 will contact the student to answer any questions and be available to assist with the simulator classes. This hands-on experience will prepare you for flight with several real small UAVs during your 2 day flight training class.

Phase 3

After completion of the home based ground school and simulator training, students will be scheduled for 2 days of flight training at one of our flight training centers. Standard training includes rotary wing (quadcopter) and increases in difficulty over the training syllabus.

Fixed wing drone training is available as an optional second day curriculum, (may require travel to a training site not closest to the student).

Day 1 includes pre-flight, set up, planning, and basic maneuvers. Day 2 includes advance procedures and flying scenarios. Extended training time is available. Tailored end user training in specific commercial and government agencies is available from our experts. Call (866) 916-8519 if you have any questions.

UVU Pilot Training Certificate Phase 2

What our students are saying

I successfully completed the UVU Flight Training Certification course this past summer, 2016. The Chief Instructor, Gene, presented my training group a variety of helpful in-depth information from the importance of checklists to actual hands on flights. We utilized the use of imaging (mapping) applications which were simulated in the practice fields, performed by both copter and fixed wing UAVs. Gene made the 2-day training environment both exciting and adventurous, as well as providing a wealth of knowledge. His professionalism and incredible understanding of the drone industry was second to none. Gene’s history and skill with UAVs is inspiring for anyone interested in pursuing a career with Unmanned Flight.
Mark Brazelton, sUAS Pilot / Aviation Business Specialist
I attended the UVU pilot training course during the summer of 2016. As my instructor, Gene provided in depth and thorough information about the UAVs we were operating along with critical insights regarding their automation features, control systems and commercial applications. Gene’s knowledge of imaging and sensor systems was inspiring on both a professional and academic level.
Justin Owens
My experience with Gene and UVU was greater than imagined. Gene is a very knowledgeable instructor and very detail oriented. His grasp of the UAV field is second to none and a great instructor to work with. He took the time needed to explain things in detail and gave clear guidance during my training. I feel Gene and UVU should be at the top of your list of instructors and schools for your UAV training, and believe you will be very pleased with your choice.
Christopher Walsh, iEnvision, LLC
Unmanned Vehicle University is one of the top institutions of higher education in the United States for UAS. The training SkySkopes received with UVU, especially through the guidance of their Chief Trainer Gene Payson, was absolutely exemplary. SkySkopes takes pride in our numerous UAV pilot certifications and UVU’s is one of our most cherished! We will definitely be sending more of our student pilots through the UVU program and have nothing but the highest praises to sing of UVU.
Matt Dunlevy, SkySkopes
The simulator was a good way to get an idea of how the controller (transmitter) works. I found the challenges with the 10 levels to be great skill builders. The levels made you put the multirotor in certain places (landing in certain areas/flying through certain obstacles) which at first was challenging but with a lot of practice became second nature. I really could not have asked for anything more out of phase 3. Scott was very professional and really built Jon and my confidence with several multirotors. He showed us how to update software and firmware for Dji products and tons of features that the Phantom 2 Vision plus and S1000 are capable of. We both had a lot of flight time with multiple platforms. Jon and I walked away with a great deal of knowledge and confidence with flying the platforms that we will be using for work. Scott is a top notch instructor and I am very grateful that I was able to receive instruction from him.
Billy, Department of Defense
As the owner of a small photography studio, I always have to be on the alert for the next big wave of change that can enhance my business. When I started to learn about drones I realized that they could become an important part of the creative services I offer my individual and corporate clients. Providing them with the ability to capture a moment or gather the visual information they need from the air makes me that much more important to them. When I found out about Unmanned Vehicle University, I knew I had to take the course — and I am glad I did. Before taking the course at UVU, the only thing I ever flew was a paper airplane. The course gave me the knowledge and confidence I needed to expand my photography/video business in a whole new exciting direction aimed toward the future.
Joe Polillio, Productions Still & Motion Photography
I recently started the doctoral program at the Unmanned Vehicle University and thought the 3-day UAV Seminars course would be a great overview for all of the upcoming courses in my future. Indeed, I was extremely impressed with the amount of material we covered in such a short time. The topics give a well-rounded look at the industry, covering not only the full system perspective of the vehicles, payloads and ground control stations, but where we stand with current legislation, commercial opportunities and what future technologies are being worked on. The support material included provides plenty of sources for review and guidance for further topic exploration. There were numerous multi-media examples, as well as great class discussion. Speaking of the class, it was a diverse group of professionals that were all interesting to spend time with. It appears we made great friends as well as a new network of folks passionate about the aerospace industry and all of the benefits unmanned systems will bring. Dr. LeMieux mentioned in the initial introductions how the industry is changing almost daily. True to that statement, we had several relevant articles presented each day that were hot off the press. The material is fresh, maintained well and professionally put together. As an instructor, Dr. LeMieux was engaging, extremely knowledgeable and accountable for bringing back answers the following morning to the rare couple of questions he said he needed to check on. He cares about the program and it shows. I give my highest recommendations for the UAV Seminars Course.
