(At Home) Students will complete the UVU Small UAV Ground School which consists of the following topics: Checklists General characteristics Dimensions & weight Motors Propellers Electronic speed controls Wireless links Fuel/Flight Battery Flight Parameters Limitations Emergency Procedures Normal procedures Performance Flight times & wireless transmission Weight and balance Air Vehicle Systems Description Handling, service and maintenance
(At Home) As soon as payment is received, we will ship a simulator to you in the mail. The simulator consists of software and a controller that plugs into the computer USB port. After you install the software you will be able to fly 47 different small UAVs from 6 different sites. Students will receive instruction on both fixed wing and rotor wing aircraft. Students will practice unusual attitude recoveries and takeoff and landings. One of our highly qualified instructors will call you and provide instruction on the phone while you are at home. This hands on experience will prepare you for flight with several real small UAVs during your 2 day flight training class.
(At Flight School)After completion of the home based ground school and simulator training, students will be scheduled for 2 days of basic flight training at one of our flight training centers. Students will fly both fixed wing and vertical takeoff (quadcopter, helicopter) small UAVs depending on location. Propulsion systems are both electric and gas. His company is involved in the manufacturing, operation, design, development, systems engineering, power plant engineering, electrical and electronic system development, market analysis, piloting, and more regarding large Remote Controlled and small Unmanned Aircraft. He is a UAV pilot for the Air Force Research Laboratory and is a certified pilot on the Penguin B gasoline powered fixed wing small UAV. He has guest lectured regarding small UAVs at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and other venues for several years. His forte is small UAV operation.
TJ Diaz has 20 years of experience designing, engineering, integrating and operating Small Unmanned Aircraft and Unmanned Ground Systems. He is the President and CEO at XFLY Systems based out of Colorado serving customers world wide, and a Founding Member of Drone Media Group LLC. TJ is a Certified sUAS Media Master Instructor and holds sUAS certifications from Unmanned Vehicle University.

Martin Bedding is a highly qualified R/C pilot and instructor and has been building, designing and flying R/C aircraft since the mid 1960s. He emigrated from England to California in December 2012. However before emigrating from the UK he was a member of the (BMFA British Model Flying Association) since 1981. He served on the BMFA council for 6 years. From his expertise and passion for aeronautics, he was instrumental in negotiations for a class of scale aerobatic aircraft, thereby establishing a new event for the BMFA British National Championships ~ I.M.A.C. (Int’l Miniature Aerobatic Club). For those who take their skills as R/C flyers to a different level, this was a big step forward. I.M.A.C is now a recognized specialist body by the BMFA.
Martin has competed in many aerobatic competitions and is known to be an excellent display pilot. In I.M.A.C., he has been a contest director at the British Nationals for 7 years as well as a chairman and judge for 5 years. He was Chief Judge for 2 years, just before his immigration to the USA.
Martin has a wealth of skills and experience. From owning his own company for designing and producing model kits which sold world wide to the author of many model magazine articles, he has gained the knowledge it takes to know what makes an aircraft fly well and what it takes for a pilot and his/her aircraft to excel in this fun yet sometimes challenging sport.
Martin is excited to be a part of the UXV University as the West Coast instructor. He loves teaching students and has the demeanor and patience for the job.
